Edit: Lol, After seeing that there is another Creative Inspiration Contest on
The Creative Inspiration Contest [closed]I feel a bit out of date. Ah well. I swear I didn't intentionally copy the idea and I found that afterwards. Besides, this challenge is about creating links and chains and all mediums are welcome.
12.1.2014: Contest is now closed
Thank you for all the wonderful entries!!!
11.1.2014: Only today left! Get your entries in!
Edit 24.11.13: Updated prizes + put the date in proper format; updated rules - one line added:
"Entries that keep too closely to the inspirational source (i.e. the ones that basically copy the image by just switching the stock) will be rejected."
I have decided to wait a little longer before adding any judges so you are not limited by maybe wanting to avoid certain people as inspirational sources
Edit 4.12.13: Please, please, please, read the rules before you start!
I hate to decline work on the grounds of formalities (especially when I can see you put a lot of effort
in your work) - this includes the DO NOT COPY part!
Edit 14.12.13: Updated prizes
The Idea
When we browse dA, we constantly get in
When the internet is on, I probably spend waaay to much time on DA rather than working on my own pieces of art or writing. However, one DA I am inspired by many of the pieces of work that are on here. For example,

So DA is a pretty inspiring place to be sometimes. So I'd like to launch this Inspiration Challenge! Find a deviation on this website that inspires you. Can be artwork, literature or a resource. Create a deviation based on that inspiration. And hopefully someone will come after you to continue the chain. The aim is to create the longest chain of deviations inspired by another piece of artwork. Who knows, we might get chains, trees or even interconnected webs out of this! It would be pretty fascinating if that was the case, wouldn't it? So this is how we are going to play the game:
Rules!
1. Rules are subject to change by me at any time. I'm making this up as I go along so some rules aren't going to work out and new ones may be added in. It is your duty to check journals and see if anything has changed. So no complaining. I also may post updates on the chains happening. It isn't necessary to watch me but I suggest you stay tuned at least.
2. All mediums are welcome! General DA rules apply - e.g. if you use stock, credit it, etc.
3. The first deviation in the chain should actually be an old one inspired by another artist on DA than yourself. I will not consider fan art that has been inspired by artists off this site as a qualifier - for me this is a DA community link project. Find a deviation by another artist on this website that inspires you and create from there. That will be considered the first deviation in the chain. This first deviation of the chain doesn't need to link to my journal. However, the second deviation in the chain must be new and created for this challenge. You must put a link or a thumb to this journal in your Artist's Comments.
4. In your Artist's Comments you must put a link or thumb to the deviation that inspired you. You must also write a brief explanation as to how you were inspired by the piece before you. It would also be best if you told the artist before you that you were inspired by their art so they are aware they are part of this challenge (This is mainly something to send for the first deviation in the link).
5. People may participate more than once but they can't go after themselves. For example, when you've created a deviation in your chain you will have to wait until someone creates a deviation after you before you can jump back into that particular chain again. You being repeatedly inspired by yourself isn't really the point of this challenge - it's to look at other art and broaden your horizons and make connections to other people. So make sure the piece you submit to this challenge is of quality and will inspire other people after you!
6. To make things easier for people looking for other people looking to participate in this challenge you can put your thumbnails of your work in the comments of this journal. To get other people to participate in this challenge you can also feature this journal and spread the word .
7. Now, this is possibly going to be the trickiest part - monitoring the chain, tree or web and noting me about it at the end of the challenge. It would be easiest if the first person who chooses to participate in this challenge monitored the chain, tree or web and noted me in the end or if the last person in the chain managed to trace back their chain, tree or web and note me with all the deviations participating in the chain. This may not be easy or entirely possibly but if all the people who realise they are in the same chain, link or tree could form a group and organise one person to note me that would be the best. I propose people start trying to organise themselves by 15th of December 2013. From that point on no more links to the chains should be added to make it easier for yourselves to organise. Organise yourselves and make sure I receive your note by the 20th of December 2013. Deadlines are possibly subject to change but I think it's probably best to wrap this up before Christmas season really strikes.
8. Note me if you find anything confusing!
Prizes
To be honest if chains, trees and webs do manage to get ridiculously long with a vast number of participants (which is what I'm hoping for) I probably won't be able to offer everyone a prize. However I will try to depict the chains, webs and trees in my journal (or journals if it becomes really large!). Hence why this is more of a challenge rather than a contest. At the moment this depends on how many people participate and how many, if any are willing to help me organise this (which would be appreciated). Nevertheless if people more organised than I managed to sort out how we would judge 1st, 2nd and 3rd or donate prizes and such it may turn into a contest. Other features would be appreciated.
